Public Calendar & Free/Busy Feed

Besides the booking page, LockMyCal also offers two ways to share your availability with the outside world without having to give anyone access to the dashboard:

  1. Public calendar page (/your-username/calendar) — a visual, non-editable overview of busy/free blocks.
  2. Free/Busy feed (.ics) — a standard iCalendar VFREEBUSY feed for subscribing in your calendar program (Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar).

Both features show only availability (busy/free) — never event titles, descriptions or attendee names.

1. Public calendar page

At https://yourdomain.com/your-username/calendar, anyone with the link can find a clear view of your availability, rendered in the same visual style as your booking page.

You'll find all the settings in Integrations → Calendars in the Public calendar block:

  • Visibility: The public calendar can be turned off (it is on by default). A disabled page only announces that the calendar is not public, and the "Show the full calendar" link disappears from the booking page.
  • Color settings: Optionally color the busy blocks according to which connected calendar they come from.
  • Visible hours: By default, busy blocks are shown all day; you can limit them to a daily window (e.g. 07:00–18:00), outside of which the page shows nothing.
  • Historical events: By default, the page shows only today and the future; showing older months can be turned on.
  • Weekends: The Show weekends option is off by default. The public calendar page then shows Monday to Friday only, and the free/busy feed leaves out busy times at weekends; Saturday and Sunday still appear in a month where a weekend day can be booked. When you turn the option on, the whole week is shown, including busy times at weekends, in the calendar and in the feed.

The current day is highlighted in the calendar with a colour across the whole cell.

Events that the calendar lists as "free" (e.g. unconfirmed invitations) are shown dashed as non-blocking – without a title, only with the time; the slot stays available for booking.

2. Free/Busy feed (.ics subscribe)

The feed is intended for subscribing in your calendar program — unlike a one-off file download, after you add it, it refreshes itself regularly, so it always shows current availability.

Turning on the feed

  1. In the dashboard, go to Integrations → Calendars.
  2. In the Free/Busy feed section, click Turn on the free/busy feed.
  3. LockMyCal generates a unique, unguessable address in the form:
    https://yourdomain.com/free-busy/RANDOM_TOKEN
  4. Copy this address and in your calendar program use an option like "Add calendar by URL" / "Subscribe by URL".

Security and behaviour of the feed

  • Access controlled only by the token: The address isn't publicly linked anywhere; without the correct token it returns 404, so it doesn't even reveal whether the user has the feed turned on at all.
  • No meeting content: The feed contains only time intervals of busy times, no meeting titles, descriptions or attendees.
  • A rolling window of 60 days: The feed always shows availability from the current moment up to 60 days ahead.
  • Request rate limiting: The feed is rate-limited (max. 60 requests per minute per client IP address).
  • Regeneration and turning off: At any time, you can invalidate the old link with the Generate new link button, or turn the feed off completely with Turn off the feed.

Note

The feed respects the same visible-hours limit as the public calendar page (point 1) — the daily visibility window you set applies to both. The same goes for weekends: as long as the Show weekends option is off, the feed leaves out busy times at weekends.
